Goal

Students will learn all about Australia through read-alouds and special hands-on projects.

What will be done with my students

At our school, we have a program called STEMER. This stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math with Educational Reading. The students involved in STEMER are enriched during the school day. This year's theme is Australia. Students will be learning about the location and geography, culture, people, Aborigines, food, and the vast array of animals. Students will be making boomerangs, didgeridoos, coral reef dioramas, cooking authentic foods, and make various animal crafts. All of the projects are based on Australian books read to the students. Students will also do research on ipads, watch related videos, and display projects at the annual Science Expo in February. This program runs from September 2016 to May 2017 for over 100 students.

Benefits to my students

Students will be enriched academically, socially and mentally. They will learn about the culture and animal life in Australia. Students will interact with each other in cooperative groups while learning in the areas of science, math, and reading.

Describe the Students
