Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 17

Thank you for your funding of my grant. I was able to purchase supplies to give to my low income students who were not able to purchase the supplies they needed this year. I am in the process of creating writing folders that will help my students to keep track of their writing process which will help them to understand the process much clearer. I truly appreciate your funding my project so I can assist my students in becoming more organized learners.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I need to purchase composition notebooks, folders, highlighters, and a classroom pencil sharpener.

What will be done with my students

We are in need of composition notebooks for all subjects. I integrate them into our daily learning skills. We respond to reading, ask questions, create graphic organizers, and use it to jot writing ideas. In math we are constantly describing our thinking and using our notebooks to explain our reasoning. I want to create a writing folder that integrates the different stages in the writing process .To do this I need 4 folders per student. WE will be using the highlighters on a weekly basis to dig deeper into our reading. Highlighting important information and digging out the meaning of our stories. finally a pencil sharpener is the heart of my classroom. Without it we struggle to get through a day without the call of " I need a new pencil!" It is on its last leg as it is 5 years old and struggles to chew through even the best of pencils.

Benefits to my students

Students will be able to stay organized and focused on meaningful learning. I can provide the children the same resources so we are not searching for their different stylized notebooks. WE can have sharp pencils on demand and stop throwing away the chewed up pencils that seem to never sharpen. We will be able to focus our writing on the stage we are in. Students will be engaged and focused when using these materials and I know it will help them mature as readers and writers.

Describe the Students

I have 17 students 5 are ELL students with moderate english language knowledge. I have 7 students performing 2 grade levels below where they should be. Even though I have 7 below level students, all of my students are gifted in their own ways. We think outside the box on most days. That is one reason why these resources are so important to our classroom. It is used daily as an outlet to explain, create, and explore their thinking.
