I would love to enhance student learning in guided reading with the impact of Literacy Footprints. My goal is for all of my scholars to leave Kindergarten on a E/F level or higher. The goal is a D level when exiting Kindergarten, but I am striving for more. I want all my students to become proficient readers that can't wait to pick up another book!

Goal

I would love to enhance student learning in guided reading with the impact of Literacy Footprints. My goal is for all of my scholars to leave Kindergarten on a E/F level or higher. The goal is a D level when exiting Kindergarten, but I am striving for more. I want all my students to become proficient readers that can't wait to pick up another book!

What will be done with my students

Literacy Footprints is a comprehensive literacy program, with absolutely everything I may need to teach guided reading. It comes with engaging lessons and plans written by Jan Richardson. Literacy Footprints is a Guided Reading system designed for classroom teachers who teach intervention, ELLs, and other primary children to read and write. The kit contains sequenced, high-quality leveled texts in a variety of genres. My students will encounter traditional tales, realistic fiction, fantasy, and informational text. The lesson cards that accompany the books follow Jan Richardson’s “Next Step” lesson format. All of the tools I have listed below are great resources for the students. The picture cards are vivid and exciting to teach short vowels, long vowels, blends and digraphs. The sand trays are highly interactive and great fro teaching sight words.

Benefits to my students

With many English Language Learners in my classroom, the Literacy Footprints program includes great extensions for ELLs, as well as, engaging lessons for my general education learners. The programs integrates reading, writing and comprehension into the guided reading group. Richardson has identified the essential components of an effective guided reading lesson: targeted assessments, data analysis that pinpoints specific strategies students need, and the use of Guided Writing to support the reading process. The benefits are endless!

Describe the Students

I have a very wide range of students in my Kindergarten class. They range from low to high. I have many cultures that are within our four walls. From Vietnamese, Spanish, Bosnian, African America to Caucasian. Some of my students have come in speaking little to no English. This kit will help me with instruction to bridge the gap between the classroom and intervention instruction with minimal planning time needed.

Budget Narrative

In reality, the Intervention Kit is exactly what my classroom needs :) But I understand the price is higher than the grant, so anything helps. The INTERVENTION KIT includes 4 copies of each title, teaching tools for groups of 4 students as well as a lesson plan for each title.

If the kit is unable to be applicable for the grant, the other tools for teaching Guided Reading would be extremely appreciated.

The word cards would help tremendously. The Word Study Card Boxed Set contains beautifully photographed picture cards to be used for consonant, vowel, and blend picture sorting and other phonics games and activities to build your students' phonemic awareness and word-solving skills.
The Working with Words kit provides teachers with tools to use for letter learning and a variety of word-solving activities. It is intended for teachers working with several students and includes three sets of lowercase magnetic letters, one uppercase set, a tabletop magnetic easel, one set of four magnetic trays and the Pioneer Valley Word Card Set.

The Teacher Resource Kit has Jan Richardson's new book she just published that is highly sought after with new tools and research o support primary learning. It is a wish list item that would also be extremely helpful.

The Gel Board helps with practicing new words and letter formation with the Gel Board. Writing with a magnetic stylus (included) and erase with a finger. No more messy or smelly markers!

The Reader Windows help students focus fully on the text they are reading. Students slide the tool along as they read to help them focus on one line of text at a time.

The Word Card Set includes four sets of 78 high-frequency words printed on sturdy cards and organized alphabetically in a handy box with dividers. This is an excellent tool for both small groups and one-to-one intervention teaching.
