Goal

To teach students about maintaining a budget as a mock ad company and working together to create an ad campaign for in-school competition to be presented to their peers throughout the school.

What will be done with my students

The students will, during the course of the class, be placed in groups to form their ad agencies. They will then use their time to develop a campaign that will consist of a particular product. They will create a TV commercial, radio commercial, product packaging, social media campaign, billboard ad and magazine ad (as well as major presentation). All the while they are keeping their “corporation” alive with a balance sheet of monies earned and lost through business transactions from FATE cards pulled daily in class.

Benefits to my students

Students learn how to create and maintain a budget in order to meet the group's goals. The students learn how to work together to create a team project. The students learn how to create digital pieces that will enhance project presentation. Students learn how to gain confidence in public speaking and compete in speech competition. Students learn how to analyze the economy in order to reach an audience with a product.

Describe the Students

The students range from low to high in Speech II. Some of the students are English as a Second Language Students and some have learning disabilities.

Budget Narrative

The presentation supplies for students includes each grouping buying the supplies they need to complete their professional billboards, magazine ads, tv commercials and product packaging. They have to focus their budget per team on what they deem as necessary to the product presentation. The team that wins (we have 18 teachers and staff that judge the contest with hundreds of students watching the ad campaigns) each get a $50 gift card to a Target.
