Goal

Gulf Beaches STEM Lab is requesting funding for materials for our STEM, Robotics, Coding, and Science education.

What will be done with my students

The STEM materials requested will be used to support K-5 curriculum. The kits and materials ordered can all be taken apart and put back together in a variety of ways for a diversity of application and be permanently integrated. Teachers will be able to check out materials from the STEM lab as needed to support Florida Standards being taught. This is our timeline:
November
2-5 Raptor Roller Coaster (Design and build roller coasters)
December
2-5 Marble run add on set challenge. Students will create a marble run using creativity and team building.
January
2-5 Young Architects challenge. Students will use the kits to complete a real world architect project.
February
2-5 Robotics Smart Machines.
March
2-5 Keva Catapult challenge - who can build the best catapult - how far can you launch?
April and May
2-5 K'nex building kits. Students can create a variety of projects using the kits.

Benefits to my students

The STEM and STEAM materials will be used by students in grade K-5 to support learning in standard based areas. There are 22 teachers at our school that will have access to these materials. Using these materials challenges students, teaches them to work in groups or teams, engages them in learning, and prepares them for jobs in the STEM fields. Grades 3-5 will partner with grades K-2 for collaborative learning. We currently have 4 after school STEM Academies which provide instruction to 80 students in grades 2-5. Additionally, the materials can be used by the Robotics clubs and Science Enrichment club which will provide instruction to 40 students in grades 3-5. All students have access to our Science/STEM Lab.

Describe the Students

Our school has 24% gifted learners from K-5. 10% of our school population has an IEP or 504 in place. We are a digital magnet school and strive for higher learning expectations. STEM, STEAM and Coding are being offered to all grade levels and for students of all abilities.
We have a wide range of learners at Gulf Beaches and these materials will be used by students of all abilities. The materials will be used during school by classroom teachers and for after school programs.
