The Literacy Footprints kit allowed the Kindergarten student to learn to read and develop a passion for reading

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of the project is to provide Jan Richardson Literacy Footprints for the Kindergarten classes at Curlew Creek Elementary. These Literacy Footprints will help to enhance small group reading instruction in Kindergarten.

What will be done with my students

The Literacy Footprints will be used during small group or guided reading groups. The kit contains guided reading lessons for the entire year of kindergarten. The teachers will now have the necessary materials needed to reach each and every one of their students with the Literacy Footprints. No more students will fall through the cracks during a critical year of instruction in kindergarten. These footprints provide targeted instructional materials and concepts that are relevant to any kindergarten child throughout the year. The Literacy Footprints provide a guide for teachers to reference while they are conducting their guided reading groups.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of having the Literacy Footprints will allow for all Kindergarten Teachers to provide quality and meaningful guided reading instruction to all students. Having an so called "common language" is key when dealing with Kindergarteners and Reading instruction. The Literacy Footprints will allow the teachers to have all the necessary materials needed at their fingertips without spending countless hours preparing and pulling books that they believe will reach the children and teach the necessary skills. The great thing about the Literacy Footprints is that it is already don't for the teachers and they will know exactly what skills will be taught during that guided reading lesson.

Describe the Students

The students at Curlew Creek come from a variety of backgrounds. They come to school eager to learn each and every day with a smile on their face. There is nothing better than to see a Kindergarten succeed and to see them become independent and creative readers in the classroom. The best part about the Literacy Footprints is that all students, regardless of socio-economic status or performance will benefit from the footprints.

Budget Narrative

I have already received a quote from Pioneer Valley Books who publish the Literacy Footprints. Since I completed a training during the summer, they will provide a 20% discount. With the discount the price would be $2280.00 plus shipping totaling out to $2462.20
