The goal of the Schoolwide Enrichment Cluster (SEM) is to encourage students who share an interest in Lego's and robotics. In using Lego's and robotics students will create crazy creatures. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting Mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

Goal

The goal of the Schoolwide Enrichment Cluster (SEM) is to encourage students who share an interest in Lego's and robotics. In using Lego's and robotics students will create crazy creatures. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting Mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.  

 

What will be done with my students

In teams of 4-5 students will be given a challenge to solve using lego's and robotics. They will have to work around specific parameters from First Lego League Jr. in order to solve the problem. This will require teamwork, problem solving and creativity.

 

 

Benefits to my students

This will begin during our Schoolwide Enrichment 10 week program. This will increase their knowledge of science, technology while using creativity. This will also be offered as an after school program STEM cluster where 20 second- fifth grade students can participate. 

 

Describe the Students

This cluster will consist of 20-25 students that are multiaged 1st-5th grade.

ESE- 5
LOW- 5 low performing
MEDIUM- 5-10 average performing
HIGH- 5 gifted students 

 

Budget Narrative

The WeDo 2.0 ReadyGo Classroom Pack
contains everything you need to ignite your students’ desire to learn while enhancing their skills in science, engineering, technology, and coding. Each pack includes:
Bricks, smarthub, an electronic system based building block,a medium motor which can be programmed to clockwise and counterclockwise and to move at different speeds,a motion sensor to detect objects, a tilt sensor to report direction it is tilted.
Curriculum, includes 17 projects that motivate and engage across key science topics. Each project includes:
1 Getting Started to teach basic functions.
8 Guides to provide instructional experience for completing projects.
8 Open Projects, that provide an open-ended experience.
Each project includes 3 phases: explore, create and share, and suggestions for extended learning opportunities and investigate more which allows the students to delve deeper into the research, design, building and programming of their project.
Software and apps: Lets students bring their creations to life while sharpening their computational thinking skills.
