Goal

To purchase enough terra-cotta clay for each 6th grade student to create a Terra-cotta soldier, chariot, horse, section of the Great Wall of China, or other treasures when we study the unit on Ancient China in Ancient History. All 6th grade Social Studies Classes will collaborate on this project.

What will be done with my students

Each of the 6th grade students will have the opportunity to make terra-cotta artifacts such as the ones uncovered in China in Emperor Qin Shihuangdi's tomb. They will be able to reconstruct a section of the Ancient Great Wall of China, or maybe engrave a scene on a brick used to build tombs for rulers. These artifacts will be displayed for the entire student body to see.

Benefits to my students

Students often learn concepts more deeply when they are able to create hands-on activities that correspond with the lesson. With the supplies provided for each student, each student will be able to participate in the activity, regardless of ability to purchase materials.

Describe the Students

We are a Title I school with a very diverse student population. We have magnet, advanced, traditional, and ESE learners from a large demographic. If we are able to provide materials for the students, all students will be provided for.

Budget Narrative

Funds will be used to buy containers of clay.
