These charts, questions, and clips have enhanced our reading core instruction as well as intervention groups.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this request is to enrich the English language arts curriculum for my students through the use of hands-on opportunities.

What will be done with my students

These matierals will be used with the students during ELA intervention and ELA core instruction time. There are many uses for these materials, including on an individual, small group, and whole group instructional level. For the individual usage, each students would have a language practice journal. The discussion question cards and clips would be used during small group intervention time, and could be used as students transition between literacy rotations as well. The charts, which are my favorite part, would be used during whole group instruction, especially to help facilitate during our writing time.

Benefits to my students

My students would benefit greatly from these materials! The materials would provide a hands-on opportunity to write, select questions, clip ideas, and think on their own, as well as provide a mentor example or anchor during their writing.

Describe the Students

My students have my heart. They are the sweetest kids I have ever met, and they DESPERATELY want to make learning gains and to be successful. I have a mixture of low and high performers, as well as one friend who is very new to English! My school draws from a very low-income community, and due to the financial status of the area and our student population, all students receive free lunch! Our school is very lucky to receive Title I funding and corporate donations, and our students are so grateful. My school is a positive, beautiful, safe environment for children to learn in and I know that my students would be so appreciative of these materials!
