Goal

We want to purchase hands-on Lego STEM building materials to actively engage our students and to build our students problem-solving skills and overall interest in STEM activities.

What will be done with my students

The students will be utilizing the building materials to work together to develop designs while blending their newly acquired skills with their prior knowledge. The Lego sets will also lead into student inquiries and will allow students to explore new ideas and concepts.

Benefits to my students

Students will receive an introduction to science and design technology concepts to peak their interests in STEM. The Lego education philosophy is built around the concepts of connect, construct, contemplate, and continue. These concepts are built around student inquiry, which interconnects with the IB philosophy of providing relevant, and challenging learning opportunities. The Lego sets will motivate our students by providing an exciting hands-on, problem-solving approach to learning about STEM.

Describe the Students

Our school is an International Studies School and is in the process of receiving International Baccalaureate (IB) accreditation. An IB school ensures that learning is engaging, relevant, challenging, and significant within a transdisciplinary model and through structured inquiry experiences. We are also a Title 1 school. A majority of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes.
