What will be done with my students

After students listen and read along with the books we will have a "book study" and discuss what was read. Through this we will build comprehension strategies, address vocabulary deficits, explain common phrases found in the material and begin writing book reviews. Students will not only strengthen their Spanish language skills, they will begin to develop writing skills and increase their reading comprehension. Many students struggle with reading, yet they love to listen to stories. By eliminating some of the stress of reading, students will be able to enjoy reading.
The narrators of the audiobooks will provide an expressive and fluent model for students to emulate and enjoy. 

 

Benefits to my students

-Audiobooks are a powerful literacy tool as they provide the example of what proficient reading sounds like along with introducing new material.
-It gives an opportunity for a learner to appreciate the reading text through listening.
-It teaches students how to pronounce the words.
-Improves overall performance of the students.
-Provide students with fun and engaging tools that will prepare them for effective functioning outside the classroom.
- By listening and reading at the same time, students will have an increased understanding of the books.  

 

Describe the Students

We are an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Pre-K-5 school. The program focuses on fostering an international education and creating cultural awareness as students become global citizens with a responsibility to take action to make the world a peaceful, productive place. The acquisition of a foreign language at an early age is encouraged and supported as early as preschool and throughout a student’s middle and high school years. I teach PK-5 PYP Spanish for 500+students which include ESE students, challenged, high performers, and gifted students. 

 

Budget Narrative

We will buy two sets of books for Level 1 and Level 2, with five titles. Each read-along kit includes 4 copies of an engaging book written just for early readers, plus a CD that narrates the story word for word.
