My students LOVE these book sets and learning centers! We use them during our Magic Hour instructional time.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this request is to enrich not only the science curriculum, but to expose my students to nonfiction science texts and a fun means of formative assessment.

What will be done with my students

My students will use the science reading materials as small group rotations during our literacy block, as well as during the core science time as supplementary material. The interactive quizzes will be used as formative assessments prior to unit tests and as a fun way to get students excited about science.

Benefits to my students

My students struggle in science and reading and reinforcement of science concepts during literacy core as well the exposure of the texts will be greatly beneficial. They enjoy working in small groups and these materials will allow for more collaborative learning.

Describe the Students

My students have my heart. They are the sweetest kids I have ever met, and they DESPERATELY want to make learning gains and to be successful. I have a mixture of low and high performers, as well as one friend who is very new to English! My school draws from a very low-income community, and due to the financial status of the area and our student population, all students receive free lunch! Our school is very lucky to receive Title I funding and corporate donations, and our students are so grateful. My school is a positive, beautiful, safe environment for children to learn in and I know that my students would be so appreciative a fun and exciting writing center!
