Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 14

Students were hard at work for the makeblock robots and it was difficult. There were so many pieces and at first they did not read the directions thorughly. After reading the instructions, I purchased batteries for the robots.Other students were programming the ozbots and the interesting aspect of the ozbot is that you could mark paths for the ozbots using the specialized markers or you could go to the webiste and program the ozbot on the computer. However, you need a touchscreen computer to do so. For the most part, we  created paths for our ozbots and used all  of the paths which were in the packet. However, some students created their own.

 

There were some triyng times because we didn't think we were going to be funded for our robots but then the money finally came. The secretary had never ordered through Amazon and that was a little difficult but  received the robots about two weeks ago and started working on them immediately. 

 

I believe the students like working as teams to put the robots together and most students like to work with their hands in the class. It was the quietest times I seen them because they were really concentrating because when they were not paying attention, they screwed something wrong and had to start over. It was very impact and most students would like to go into computer programming or codiing.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will play with the tool, explore what it does, and go from there.Learning to code can help students to embrace failure and gain confidence with technology. Learning to code becomes learning to learn. 

 

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to manually code so that robots can follow the codes that students create. This will promote collaboration and problem solving skills for students. By promoting code literacy, we could possibly improve education equity among students with exceptional needs.  

 

Benefits to my students

This will promote collaboration and problem solving skills for students. In addition, a teacher embraces the growth mindset by asking for help, accepting and exploring failure, and keeping it fun and authentic. 

 

Describe the Students

Magnet- Very high performing learners in addition to students who need assistance to their Exceptional needs such as Asperger's. Many students of the students already display a higher level of digital literacy but coding would enhance skill set. In addition, would like to see students display more intrinsic motivation. 

 

Budget Narrative

The budget may be adjusted only to purchase coding books for students.
