Last year we were able to revive The Falcon Ledger after years of it being dormant. We got it off the ground late in the school year and were only able to produce 2 copies. We are more experienced now and would like the opportunity to grow bigger and start earlier.

Goal

Last year we were able to revive The Falcon Ledger after years of it being dormant. We got it off the ground late in the school year and were only able to produce 2 copies. We are more experienced now and would like the opportunity to grow bigger and start earlier.

What will be done with my students

This will be handled like a club. Students will run it with a staff liaison overseeing the process.

Benefits to my students

The students will be able to be journalists and gatekeepers. They will learn about the different aspects of a newspaper, such as writing, headlines, layout, advertising, and editing. The students will have something tangible to show to family and friends. They will have a keepsake and something to be proud of, as well as invaluable experience.

We offer Journalism class electives but they don't produce a newspaper for schoolwide distribution. Their students will be approached about being part of the staff.

Describe the Students

Bay Point Middle School consists of a diverse learning group. We have an outstanding magnet program, as well as enthusiastic AVID classes, in addition to our traditional students, low-performing, and SVE students. The club will be open to all who show an interest, will take pride in the responsibility, and are in good academic standing.

Budget Narrative

The grant funding will be used toward having the newspaper copied. Our goal is to "go to print" four times this school year.
