The students at Calvin Hunsinger experience severe behavioral and emotional issues. To improve their behavior and teach them the skills they need to be successful in school, we utilize a school wide behavioral management system. This system identifies target behaviors, monitors them, records the data on Point Cards and the students graph the results. We also incorporate a Levels System which includes more privileges as our students progress through the levels. The goal of this grant is to create a monthly Principals’ Breakfast for students who have obtained Level III or Honors Level status. We have a Family and Consumer Science Lab so a hot breakfast would be cooked by the principal and assistant principal as a positive reinforcement for our students, and as an incentive for them to maintain/advance their level.

Goal

What will be done with my students

Students who have obtained Level III or Honors Level would participate in a monthly Principals’ Breakfast as a positive reinforcement for their successfully meeting the Level System Criteria. It would also provide an incentive for students to maintain and advance through the Levels, as well as give our students a chance to socialize with each other.

Benefits to my students

The Principal's Breakfast would be a positive reinforcement for students who have been successful in the Levels System, as well as providing an incentive to maintain and advance through the Levels. Additionally, it would provide our students an opportunity to socialize and practice the social skills that are embedded in our curriculum. I would like to think that an event such as The Principals’ Breakfast might encourage a student to reconsider doing something that would jeopardize his Level and cause him to miss the breakfast.

Describe the Students

Many of my students are economically disadvantaged, demonstrate low academic performance, experience behavioral difficulties and mental health issues and a significant number live in single parent families. Our school receives Universal Free Lunch for students and is a Title I School. All of my students receive Exceptional Education Services (ESE) including services for students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairments and Occupational Therapy.

Budget Narrative

The money would be used to buy breakfast items such as bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, French toast, muffins etc. The goal is to have the Administrative Team make a hot, home-cooked breakfast for the students.
