Goal

Purchase shaper cutters for a new piece of equipment called a shaper. A shaper is a machine used to create custom cabinet doors and moldings from solid wood. The shaper cutters come in many different sizes and profiles.

What will be done with my students

Students will learn to construct custom cabinet doors and moldings using various hardwoods. The student will learn to set-up various cutter profiles that are used for making what is called "stile and rail", and raised panel doors. Shaper cutters will also be used to create various types of moldings.

Benefits to my students

Constructing cabinet doors and moldings is a major cabinetmaking task that must be mastered by all students. The purchase of these cutters will allow students to work with the most up to date cutter profiles used by the industry.

Describe the Students

The students in the cabinetmaking program are mostly adults. High school students also attend my program a few periods a day.

Budget Narrative

This purchase will be for cutters similar to what is currently being used by the cabinetmaking industry.
