Goal

The goal of this grant is to build a classroom library for lower level readers in the STARS program, which is an Elementary Academic Intervention dropout prevention program. The funds would be used to purchase books to create an up-to-date classroom library that considers students' interests and reading levels. This will help in motivating students to read, while increasing reading skills.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to select just right books for independent and partner reading. Furthermore students will have access to the books to bring home for nightly reading. All materials will be purchased from Scholastic and Amazon.

Benefits to my students

Students will grow as readers. STARS students will require lower level books that are currently not plentiful in the classroom. Students will be provided with a wider selection of books so they will be able find books that connect to their interested. All students, as well as students without books at home or the means to obtain books will be able to borrow books to take home. This will enable students to complete nightly reading homework.

Describe the Students

My students are in the STARS program. This program is an Elementary Dropout Prevention with Academic Intervention. Students in this program are currently low performers.
