Goal

Our goal is to better prepare the classroom for incoming 9th grade students and 11th and 12th grade students in the Reading rooms. These students come from environments where they would be unlikely to get the supplies from home or themselves.

What will be done with my students

The students will use the supplies daily in regular instruction. The materials are a vital part of class. The notebooks will be used for interactive notebooks, documenting student work and assessing accomplishments. The writing utensils will be used for daily writing prompts, writing activities, reflecting notes, Cornell notes, and completing foldables. The students will use the drawing utensils to complete diagrams and graphic organizers.

Benefits to my students

They will prevent the spread of disease and reduce the rates of absenteeism among a population characterized by chronic absence patterns impacting educational experience. The students will organize their thoughts and be able to reflect on the texts provided.

Describe the Students

The students are 75% low performers, 25% ESE, and have all failed a reading test in order to be placed in the remedial reading class. The class has students of varying ability levels. Some students read 6-7 grades below grade level.

Budget Narrative

With Back to school pricing in effect, it is difficult to determine how much things would cost at the time of funding, but I anticipate approximately 10 Spiral notebooks for high need students, 1 classroom stapler with staples, 5 large bottles of hand sanitizer, 10 containers of Clorox wipes, 12 boxes of tissue, and Ziploc bags for student organization of writing tools and graphic organizer pieces.
