Goal

To provide students with access to current news and important happenings around the world.

What will be done with my students

5th grade students will receive Scholastic News magazines throughout the school year to read and analyze. We used these last year extensively, but no longer have the funding available to continue our subscription.

Benefits to my students

Students will be able to read about current events and discoveries in the world. Scholastic News helps supplement our Social Studies curriculum in the classroom, and keeps kids excited about reading! It is a leveled reader for grades 5/6. It offers informational reading enhanced with maps, graphs, and charts. There are also teacher activities provided that align with the Common Core Standards.

Describe the Students

We have 110 5th graders. Our classes have ESOL and ESE students. We have a wide range of ability levels. Lynch Elementary is a Title I school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch daily.

Budget Narrative

110 Subscriptions to Scholastic News Grade 5/6 Edition will be purchased.
