Goal

To provide a dock that will give the opportunity to our students to become inspired to attend marine science and STEM programs at the high school level, to pursue careers in marine science and STEM beyond high school

What will be done with my students

Madeira Beach Fundamental is in a unique location, as it is one of the only schools in Florida located directly on the water. In order to provide access to the marine environment for a variety of activities, a dock was built to provide direct access to Boca Ciega Bay. The dock is used in a variety of courses, including science classes, math classes, and Florida History classes, among others. The dock provides a real-world location for lessons that cover numerous STEM topics (Science, technology, math, and engineering).

Benefits to my students

Students receive hands on learning while visiting the (classroom) dock. This opportunity has allowed our students to become inspired to attend marine science and STEM programs at the high school level, to pursue careers in marine science and STEM beyond high school.

Describe the Students

We are a fundamental school (K-8) with a blended student population. Plus we service all students in 4th grade throughout the county.

Budget Narrative

We will be rebuilding the dock with a state of the art composite material and removing the current worn boards and rusty chains.
