Goal

The Girls on the Run program allows every girl to recognize her inner strength by encouraging positive emotional, social, mental and physical development in young girls.

What will be done with my students

The students will participate in an after-school program, twice weekly, for twelve weeks. Adult-guided discussions will start off each session (using a peer reviewed curriculum developed by GOTR) that will focus on: challenges girls face at this age, developing strategies and skill to navigate these challenges and exploring how they can positively connect with and shape the world, just to name a few. Each session will also include physical fitness by training to run a 5K at the conclusion of the season with other Girls on the Run program participants in the Tampa Bay area. The season will wrap up with a community involvement project where the girls will have the opportunity to give back to their community by organizing and completing a project for the cause of their choosing.

Benefits to my students

Through participation in discussions each week and through participation in the community involvement project upon completion of the program, not only the participants, but everyone that the young girl will interact with in her school, family and community throughout her life will benefit. Each girl will get a better understanding of who she is and what's important to her. By exploring how each girl can positively connect with and shape the world, she will develop healthy relationships and develop strategies and skills to navigate life experiences. She will continue to develop these strategies and skills as she journeys through life, evolving as a student, daughter, friend, employee and eventually a strong, independent woman.
