Goal

The goal of using these Kazoon Kite packages will be to have our STEM Academy students understand the engineering behind FLIGHT. Students will have fun demonstrating action/reaction, wind speed and pulling force, and the strength of the triangular shape!

What will be done with my students

Students will be exposed to a new way of learning with project-based Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Through collaboration, design and re-design and problem solving, students will build their kites, test them out and change them to achieve their goals in flight. We will combine the hands on nature of this STEM activity with research into the history of flight, and study the Math involved in geometric shapes (with a lot of fun along the way).

Benefits to my students

Science: Learning about force and motion, aerodynamics, wind speed and direction.
Math: Learning about the real-world application of tetrahedron and how geometry relates to flight.
Teambuilding and collaboration: Students will learn to work together to solve problems and redesign their kites!

Describe the Students

We have a mix of boys and girls, 4th and 5th Grade students in our STEM Academy. All economic backgrounds are represented, as well as ESE and traditional students.

Budget Narrative

We would like to order two kits so that we can have each of our 40 students build one kite. Shipping and handling is 8% of the purchase price.
