Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 1

The Ozobots proved to be a great resource for use with students in Grades 2-5.  Prior to obtaining the Ozobots, students had been learning about coding in the technology lab and developing an understanding of how commands are given for robots and programs to respond. This provided the background needed to understand how the Ozobots function. Students learned how to create tracks and imbed code for the robots to respond to as they traveled along the paths. Students worked in groups to develop different designs to accomplish tasks given. Students also learned how to combine tracks and designs to make multi-use tracks for all their robots to travel on.

The Ozobot lessons and challenges helped provide great STEM based instructional opportunities and allow students the opportunity to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to accomplish challenges given. The use of this technology provided high engagement and enthusiasm in learning. Keeping students on task was never a concern.

Students were also able to learn how similar types of track based robots are used in factories and other work places to complete tasks and get work done.

Thanks to the exposure and learning opportunity give, several students now own their own Ozobots and use them to continue to explore challenges and come up with new, unique ways to use them. The Ozobots not only function on paper with tracks drawn using markers, but also function on our school iPads using the Ozobot apps which allow the students to create tracks and imbed code with just the touch of a finger. The use of the ipads were introduced to the students after they learned how to make their ozobot functional using markers and paper. This has taken their enthusiasm for using the Ozobots to a whole new level.

Thank you so much for funding this project. It has proven to be extremely beneficial to student learning and an affordable, technology based way of integrating STEM instruction.   Lesa Roe
