Goal

The goal is to provide teachers and staff with a well equipped lounge that will help decrease their stress level. This will help improve the school morale by showing that they are valued and cared for. Teachers who are valued, rested and emotionally well will be better equipped to take care and teach students.  

What will be done with my students

Student will reap the benefits of a less stressed teacher. Teachers and staff will remain in the classrooms which will provide stability. Teachers will become less stressed and highly effective.  

Benefits to my students

My hope is that teachers and staff will come away with reduced stress in one’s life and work by taking a brief moment to relax in quiet and stillness. Arens and Morin state that students are negatively affected by teacher stress and burn-out. (2016) Self-care can be a great way to prevent or treat teacher stress. "Over 40% of teachers report feeling high stress every day during the school year, which ties teaching with nursing as having the highest stress rate of any career. Causes of stress can include lack of resources, class behavioral problems, or pressure relating to standardized test expectations, just to name a few, but they all lead to the same outcomes: weakened physical and emotional health." (Waterford) Due to the rest and relaxation room, teachers will have the ability to teach the following standards and many more with fidelity:
ELA.5.R.1.4: Explain how figurative language and other poetic elements work together in a poem.
ELA.5.R.3.2: Summarize a text to enhance comprehension.
ELA.3.R.2.1: Explain how text features contribute to meaning and identify the text structures of chronology,
comparison, and cause/effect in texts.

 

Budget Narrative

Two neck and back massagers will be used in our Tranquility Tiki Room.
One Massage chair will be used in the room. The light and sound machine will be used to provide a calming atmosphere. Two Zero gravity chairs will provide additional relaxing seating for teachers and staff.
