Goal

For students to learn the art process of papier mache from start to finish. Students would each make one large Dachshund. The student interest in papier mache has lead to this funding request. Third grade has been especially vocal in wanting to experience the papier mache process which is why grade third was chosen. 

What will be done with my students

VA.3.C.1.1 Use the art-making process to develop ideas for self-expression.
VA.3.F.1.1 Manipulate art media and incorporate a variety of subject matter to create imaginative artwork.
VA.3.S.2.2 Follow procedures, focusing on the art-making process.
VA.3.S.2.1 Integrate the structural elements of art and organizational principles of design with sequential procedures and techniques to achieve an artistic goal.
VA.3.H.3.1 Discuss how knowledge gained in the visual art classroom can serve as prior knowledge in other classrooms.
SC.3.N.3.2 Recognize that scientists use models to help understand and explain how things work.
We will discuss the origins and processes of papier mache. Then we will dive into the making of the Dachshunds!  

Benefits to my students

This funding would make it possible to follow student interest and would honor their request to experience papier mache. Every third grade student would create a Dachshund that can be displayed throughout our campus generating pride on the behalf of the makers and wonder upon the viewers.

Paper plates - for dog body
Masking tape- secure dog body parts before mache
Tin foil- for dog body
Styrofoam bowls- for dog body
Construction paper- decoration
Tissue paper- decoration
Tempera paint- decoration
Paintbrushes- decoration tool
Glue gallons- Glue+water= papier mache!
