This new equipment has brought immense joy to our 5^th graders! We appreciate your contribution toward the flags, cones, hula-hoops, jump ropes, frisbees, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, recess balls, and a beautiful weatherproof bin to store it all in. We were able to present the new recess items the last day of school before winter break. It was a perfect opportunity to try out the new equipment that’s sure to promote healthy hearts at Chisholm! Going forward, students will utilize this new equipment each day for at least 20 minutes for the remainder of the year. Next year, this new recess equipment is sure to bring as much joy for new incoming fifth graders.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to offer our 5th graders a plethora of fitness equipment during recess to encourage exercise and promote healthy hearts.

What will be done with my students

With this grant, each day students will transport equipment (in purchased wagons) to their designated recess locations. Students will have a choice as they select various materials from the wagons to participate in collaborative physical activities.

Benefits to my students

This grant will support PE standard; PE.5.M.1.1 Apply locomotor skills in a variety of movement settings while applying the appropriate
movement concepts as the situation demands. With this grant, students will become more physically literate as they make choices each day to participate with classmates using purchased recess equipment. With our guidance, students will recognize the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
