Here at Galaxy Middle School our Culinary Arts program is a new elective course for our students. This will be our second year in operation. We are so grateful to Volusia County Schools for bringing this course back to Galaxy after fifteen years. The district furnished the classroom with basic equipment to start the program. The goal as the teacher I want to select food labs that will challenge our student in the areas of mathematic and reading.

To make a difference we rely on the support of parents and the district classroom allocation funds to this course. We would be most grateful if FUTURES Foundation of Volusia County Schools would consider the new Culinary Arts (students) of Galaxy this grant up to $1000 to purchase small equipment such as: i.e., Ice Cream Makers, Griddles and Counter Deep Fryers.

Dear Futures Foundations

The students at Galaxy Middle School - Culinary Arts Programs want to thank Futures Foundation for Volusia County Schools for helping our program to puchase small equipment.  This grant allowed students to experience a variety of cooking labs which has an amazing impact on student learning.  The Culinary program here at Galaxy Middle School is an asset to the school base community.  This is only the second year that the program has been offered in the schools history.  So, the mini grant that was awarded for the 2023-24 school year impact the program greatly.  The funds of $745.00 allowed us to puchase not only the items on our wish list with the "exception of the deep fryer", but we were able to purchase items like waffle irons, storage containers , additional pizza racks and hand mixers.   All the equipment is appreciated and needed for this program which is operating in it's second year.  The students enjoyed using all the equipment in their food labs.  The following labs that were offered this year and not last school were:   grilled sandwiches, fruity smoothies, waffles, cupcakes, meatball and sausage hors d'oeuvres.  Thank you again and we look forward to collaboritng with Futures Foundation for Volusia County Schools.

"My favorite part of the school year has been cooking and trying different foods.  It has been so fun and is something we do together as a student just like a big happy family."   Mirah Proctor - 8th grader
