Goal

Stingray Café project will allow eighth grade students enrolled in the full year culinary program the opportunity to host a teacher café. Allowing students, the opportunity to experience the responsibilities of owning and/or managing a small business. Students will actively engage in ordering, managing, product development, budgeting, staffing, and advertising of a business. The grant would cover the set up cost and the goal would be for the students to maintain a profitable business.  

 

What will be done with my students

Eighth grade students enrolled in the full year Culinary Class with a curriculum including culinary careers will actively run and manage a small café that will service teachers and district employees on New Smyrna Beach Middle School campus. Stingray Café will sell and deliver snacks and beverages daily and provide a monthly catered lunch for faculty and staff. Some of the student responsibilities will be; to develop menus based on profit margins, ordering and maintaining inventory for the café, advertising for events, organizing set up and service of meals, budgeting, supply and demand, food safety and sanitation, and food management. The goal is to prepare students for careers within the food industry or further their education in the culinary arts.
