Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

Due to the partial funding of this grant, I was able to get supplies for taking vital signs. I purchased blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes for students to practice taking blood pressures and pulses. This grant helped students to have more items to practice being hands-on and not having to wait longer in order to practice their skill. We are beyond grateful!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to be able to have more students engaged in a hands-on activity with learning how to take important vital signs. More stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs means more students have that opportunity.

What will be done with my students

My students in both Medical Skills & Services and Health Science Foundations learn and deepen their understanding of vital sign limits. They will learn how to accurately obtain and monitor respirations, pulse rate, and blood pressure. As they become more comfortable and show proficiency, students have the ability to take vital signs on their peers, teachers, and others at the school Health Fair. The standard aligned to this is:
04.08 Demonstrate and record vital signs to include temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respirations while recognizing the normal range for each.

Benefits to my students

Taking vital signs is hands-on and will aim to keep kids interested. While we do currently have some cuffs and stethoscopes, we do not have enough working ones so that all students can be engaged at the same time. If we can have enough so that students in the class can work together, we will keep them from getting disengaged and off task. My goal is that each student can benefit from the items and not have to wait to use a stethoscope or cuff.

Budget Narrative

For this request, I will be looking to purchase fifteen blood pressure cuffs, fifteen stethoscopes, four teaching stethoscopes, three pulse oximeter readers, and one blood pressure arm simulation trainer. This will ensure that I can adequately teach how to take a proper blood pressure and allows students to have all tools needed to practice.

Items

# Item Cost
1 Advanced Blood Pressure Sim Manikin $488.00
2 Dual Color Pulse Oximeter $50.85
3 Dual Head Stethoscope $104.25
4 Teaching/Training Stehoscope $93.24
5 Blood Pressure Cuff Set $254.25
  Total: $990.59
