Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 125

First, I would like to thank FUTURES foundation and the donors of this project for making this collaborative project possible. The students, faculty, and community have enjoyed seeing this beautification project come alive over the past few weeks.  As we continue to work on this huge project, photos of our finished project will be shared with FUTURES!

The 5th grade students have expressed so much joy and excitment while working on this project. Students have come up with designs to spread positivity and kindness across campus, and with the fabulous spring weather we have enjoyed being outdoors immensily. I often hear them proudly show off the section of fence they have created to their peers and teachers when passing by. Creating "grafiti" style art outdoors has been a positive influence on these kids, some have commented on wanting more Art outside! This project has brought these 5th grade Artists closer together, and have learned more about teamwork and community as a result. The energy in the classroom has shifted to showing more passion and collaboration between peers during Art.

We hope to continue this tradition and add more vibrancy to our school, and foster a sense of comfort within the Manatee Cove Community.  We can't wait to finish this project as we count down the days to the end of the school year.

Thank you again to everyone who supported us, it means the world!

Goal

Students will work together to "Yarn Storm" the school, and brighten up the space by bring in the "cozy" feeling of indoors to outside. The goal for this project is for each student to experience working together as a community and collaborate on a project for the school community.

What will be done with my students

Since I see each class once every 6 days. this lesson will be completed over the course of 9 weeks. We will start by studying the "Yarn Storming" movement and the importance of art in public spaces.
This is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibers rather than paint or chalk. It is also known wool bombing, yarn storming, guerrilla knitting, kniffiti, urban knitting, or graffiti knitting.

Benefits to my students

I will be applying this lesson to my 5th grade students (approx. 250 students)
