Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

The River Springs Middle School Choir Department is so grateful for this grant! We were able to purchase a Tri-Leg Jansen Piano Dolly for our Baby Grand Piano. Earlier this school year one of the supporting legs to the piano broke due to an unknown attempt to move the old piano. Until the leg was fixed, we weren’t able to use the instrument due to it being a safety hazard. even after its repair, I would prohibit student use due to my concern of its instability.

Our piano is the cornerstone of our daily instruction and serves as a unifying instrument for choir students and other students on campus. Having a sturdy support for this incredibly old instrument ensures an even longer lifespan and will help to prevent possible damages in the future. The dolly also gives me peace of mind that it is safe for students, and myself to play on daily, for now and years to come!

THANK YOU!!!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to ensure current and future Choir students have a safe and acquire a dolly for our Baby Grand piano to help preserve its already long life and prevent any future structural damage.

What will be done with my students

MU.68.S.1.4: Sing or play melodies by ear with support from the teacher and/or peers.
MU.68.S.3.5: Notate rhythmic phrases and/or melodies, in varying simple meters, performed by someone else. Compare performances of a musical work to identify artistic choices made by performers.

Benefits to my students

This project will benefit years of students to come as it ensures the Chorus room will always have a safe and stable piano to teach students from. Not only do I use the piano daily for instruction and rehearsal, but I encourage other students to practice playing as well. This piano is a cornerstone to our Choral Program and to have it further damaged would be devastating.

Budget Narrative

I will be purchasing a Jansen Grand Piano Stage Dolly 4’6” - 5’11”. This is to be used to support the current Baby Grand in the Choir room to prevent future structural damage and preserve its current structural integrity for years to come. The piano’s legs have been broken in the past from trying to move it. The wheels are small and old and do not roll anymore. The dolly will allow us to move the piano if needed and support the already old legs and wheels. This also ensures student safety as if a leg were to break, with a student near, the heavy piano could injure them in its crash to the floor.
