Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 495

All 495 student are creating clay projects this year thanks to this grant funding! We have all started our projects and the students are over the moon excited to have the opportunity to create with clay. We have touched on science and social studies standards as well as visual arts! These past few weeks have been met with such enthusiasm from all of my students! We are all so thankful for the generous amount given that made this all possible! Thank you!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

For students to learn the importance of clay in modern and ancient cultures. Learning through lecture and making clay pieces of their own.
I have chosen to work with air dry clay because of the recent delays in shipping for ceramic clay and glazes. My yearly budget is less than one dollar per student. I am applying for this grant so that every student K-5 may have a clay experience this year. The finished work will be shown at our school's yearly art show.

What will be done with my students

VA.K.H.1.1 Describe art from selected cultures and places.
VA.1.H.1.1 Discuss how different works of art communicate information about a particular culture.
VA.2.S.1.3 Explore art from different time periods and cultures as sources for inspiration.
VA.3.S.1.3 Incorporate ideas from art exemplars for specified time periods and cultures.
VA.4.H.2.1 Explore works of art, created over time, to identify the use of the structural elements of art in an historical event or art style.
VA.5.H.1.3 Identify and describe the importance a selected group or culture places on specific works of art.
I have created PowerPoints to teach my students about the importance of clay around the world and across time. We will learn about modern uses, celebrate modern, and ancient customs surrounding clay vessels and sculptures.

Benefits to my students

Students will explore foreign, domestic, modern, and ancient uses for clay. I was able to teach a small clay unit last year. The excitement and pride that occurs in the classroom as a result of learning about and then creating clay art was contagious. The entire school would be able to create clay art with my plans in place. The only missing piece is the funding.

The above supply list includes:
-Enough clay for every student K-5
-Paint to add color after airdrying
-Age appropriate brushes to apply the paints.
-Mod Podge Gloss to seal the clay piece
