I am seeking funding to purchase educational outdoor learning equipment for kindergarten recess. Due to the limited playground space and the size of the school, kindergarten students currently have access to the playground only one day a week. One day a week we are also inside for recess. On the remaining days, students utilize grassy areas for their recess activities. I believe that acquiring outdoor learning equipment will significantly enhance the quality of these recess periods by allowing students to use these ELA and Math outdoor centers to have fun playing while learning at the same time.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 68

I was able to bring learning outside thanks to you! I appreciate you funding this so all of the Kindergarten students are able to have educational activites that are engaging to play with when they are not able to use the playground. The students look forward to playing with these materials. They are able to set up these stations and freely move to each of these areas. I walk around and am able to monitor and ask questions as they are busy having fun. Each of these stations work with the alphabet, numbers, and shapes,  Next year I also plan on using these during my tutoring sessions too. Since I tutor before school, I can bring a center in the classroom to reinforce the skill I will be working on and have it back out to be used in the afternoon during recess.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I am seeking funding to purchase educational outdoor learning equipment for kindergarten recess. Due to the limited playground space and the size of the school, kindergarten students currently have access to the playground only one day a week. One day a week we are also inside for recess. On the remaining days, students utilize grassy areas for their recess activities. I believe that acquiring outdoor learning equipment will significantly enhance the quality of these recess periods by allowing students to use these ELA and Math outdoor centers to have fun playing while learning at the same time.

What will be done with my students

While at these grassy areas, students will be able to use these purchased materials to enhance: ELA.K.F.1.1-Demonstrate knowledge of the basic concepts of print. ELA.K.F.1.3-Use knowledge of grade-appropriate phonics and word-analysis skills to decode words accurately. MA.K.DP.1.1-Collect and sort objects into categories and compare the categories by counting the objects in each category. MA.K.GR.1.1 Identify two- and three- dimensional figures regardless of their size or orientation. Figures are limited to circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, spheres, cubes, cones, and cylinders. MA.K.GR.1.2 Compare two-dimensional figures based on their similarities, differences and positions. Sort two-dimensional figures based on their similarities ad differences. Figures are limited to circles, triangles, rectangles and squares. MA.K.NSO.2.1-Recite the number names to 100 by ones and by tens. Starting at a given number, count forward within 100 and backward within 20. MA.K.NSO.1.1-Given a group of up to 20 objects, count the number of objects in that group and represent the number of objects with a written numeral. State the number of objects in a rearrangement of that group without recounting.

Benefits to my students

By obtaining this equipment, I aim to increase student engagement and foster a more stimulating learning environment during recess. These outdoor learning tools will provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on activities, explore nature, and develop their social and cognitive skills in an outdoor setting. The objective is to make recess not only a time for physical activity but also a valuable educational experience that aligns with the school's commitment to holistic development.
With the support of funding, I hope to create a more enriching recess experience for kindergarten students, promoting their overall growth and learning. Your contribution will play a vital role in achieving this goal and positively impacting the educational journey of these young learners.

Budget Narrative

The Giant Alphabet Stepping Stones will be used to help students recognize the letters and the order in which the letters appear in the alphabet. Students will get to put them out and balance to step across each while saying the letter and the sound each make. Alphabet Bowling will allow students to set up the alphabet letters. As they knock the letters down they will be able to identify which letters are still standing or which letters fell down. The Giant Number Stepping Stones will be used to help students recognize the numbers and the counting order the numbers go in. Students will get to put them out in number order and balance to step across each while saying the number. The Heavy Duty Hopscotch Puzzle Mat will be used to reinforce number recognition and counting skills as they hop the correct number of spaces. The Beanbag Board and Shapes Beanbag Set will be used to practice identifying the 2d shapes, sort them by shapes, and count each group sorted.
