Goal

To give students tools to be successful with hands on science observations and experiments.

What will be done with my students

SC.3.P.8.2-Measure and compare the mass and volume of solids and liquids
Students will conduct an experiment on the mass of gum. (scales, stopwatch)
SC.3.P.10.3/SC.3.P.10.4 Demonstrate that light travels in a straight line until it strikes an object or travels from one medium to another. Demonstrate that light can be reflected, refracted, and absorbed. Students will explore how different surfaces affect the way light travels. (mirror boards, laser lights, hand held mirror, flashlight)
SC.3.P.10.2 Recognize that energy has the ability to cause motion or create change. Students will explore if the amount of pull affect the distance (meter stick, car on track, ramp).
SC.3.E.6.1 Demonstrate that radiant energy from the sun can heat objects and when the sun is not present, heat may be lost. Students will explore how the type of material affect the speed at which it is
heated or cooled. (thermometer)

Benefits to my students

The materials will allow our students to practice hands on experiments and observations. The students will be able to make the connection between the text and the real world application. The materials will allow them to be engaged and active in the science lesson.

Budget Narrative

The science resources will be used to purchase materials for 7 third grade classrooms with a total of 140 students. The materials purchased will allow them to have hands on science experiment
