As the Marketing/Business Ownership teacher at T. Dewitt Taylor Middle-High School for my 2nd year, I realized there is a need for this type of rental service. Students will mainly be volunteering their time outside of school hours to make sure the clothing rental is running efficiently. Some marketing class time may be utilized as well to promote the business.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 100

The impact and results of the 2023-2024 Futures Foundation Mini-Grant on the Get REDy Clothing Rentals store at T. Dewitt Taylor Middle-High School, Room 1-164, was immense. Students learned how to work as a project-based team to build clothing and shoe racks, as well as connect a new dryer to use in the washing and drying of donated and returned clothing items. Also, they learned how to manage the flow of inventory coming in and going out of the store as a free rental. They created the rental agreement document used for check-outs and made sure the paperwork was completed correctly. They learned about merchandising by sorting the different size garments and labeling the racks with the appropriate sizes and organizing the racks with various, appealing clothing items in the front of the racks.

Additionally, they learned about the struggles that entrepreneurs sometimes face with the running of businesses: long hours and ongoing job tasks that come along with it. For example, there were many falling racks (due to exceeding the pounds limits) that had to be picked up. Items had to be resorted and hung again on several occasions. Students also created promotional materials (flyers and other advertisements on Canva) to promote the school store.

Students rented items for FBLA District and State Competitions, for chorus concerts, the prom, and other school and community activities. They had to return the items within a week after wearing. The process was streamlined, and everything has been running a lot smoother than when we first opened. Marketing real-world applications have assisted my students with learning that will positively impact them in their future.

Thank you again for the grant. I am very ecstatic about the generous donations received. Get REDy Clothing Rentals will continue to grow and serve many more students and the community for many more years to come.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I am the founder of Get REDy Clothing Rentals in Room 1-164 at T. Dewitt Taylor Middle High School. Additionally, I am one of the co-advisers of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

What will be done with my students

CTE Standard and Benchmark:
Standard: 12.0 Prepare a marketing strategy – the student will be able to:
Benchmark: 12.07 Develop a promotional plan that includes digital marketing and sales promotions.
Benchmark: 12.08 Develop ideas for obtaining publicity for the business.
Standard: 10.0 Prepare a description of proposed products/services – the student will be able to:
Benchmark: 10.01 Summarize the features, benefits and advantages of the products and services to be
offered.
Benchmark: 10.03 Develop an inventory policy.

My Marketing and FBLA students have been helping with the development of a professional rental clothing store. They have created a logo and unique value proposition for the store. My students will be in charge of the management of the store, from keeping inventory and other records, assisting students with their clothing needs, and other business duties.

Some of the Business Ownership and Marketing students will be attending the NFTE (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship) District Pitch Competition for the 2nd year in a row. Because students are expected to present their business pitch in front of a board of members from the local Volusia County Chambers of Commerce, it is extremely important for the students to dress for success. Also, the FBLA professional dress requirements have also been established for students to attend competitions and conventions. These dress codes are strictly enforced. Furthermore, for those students who would like to dress professionally for an interview or other event, we would be able to help students dress for that too.

Students will be able to rent clothing items before an event. They will be provided with a check-out receipt that contains the items they are renting plus the expected return date. They will be responsible for returning the items by the due date or will be charged a small monetary late fee on their school accounts. A hold will be placed on the student account until a fee is paid on any non-returned attire/accessories.

Benefits to my students

Professional dress will help enhance students’ confidence and their overall presentation! Additionally, credibility is increased and a great first impression is made when students dress professionally. Students who are managing the rental store will learn many valuable skills, like communication, leadership, teamwork, and decision-making. Additionally, they will become more responsible workers who will be able to develop their problem-solving and creative mindsets to positively impact their futures.

Budget Narrative

We have already received several donated apparel items and racks, but we are in need of more to really help make a difference. We have a shortage of men items, such as men accessories, suits, ties, shirts, pants, belts, and shoes. We are still in need of more women clothing and shoes, as well. New and gently worn items will help us to provide so many more options for our students, and eventually their parents.
We would appreciate any financial or monetary support to cover the following business expenses:
