On behalf of the students and the Mainland High School Fire Service Program, thank you so much for your decision to grant the funds to our program. With the funds received, we were able to purchase AED trainers, CPR Face Shields, Pocket Masks, and One Way Valves. Your generosity allowed our students the opportunity to participate and get certified in CPR training for Adult, Child, and Infant victims. Students learned by watching training videos and participate in hands on practical evolutions in line with the AHA (American Heart Association) guidelines.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The purpose of this grant is to assist with the students learning CPR. Just under half of Americans who witness or come upon a person who has gone into cardiac arrest have no training in this life saving skill. We are attempting to get all of our third year students fully trained so they might make a difference one day.

What will be done with my students

02.0 Discuss how firefighter health, safety prevention, and situational awareness are interrelated parts of preventing on-the-job injuries.
18.0 Describe the role of the Firefighter I in the development and implementation of a fire and life safety program.
Students will attend an AHA sponsored CPR/AED class instructed by a certified instructor. Students who successfully complete the course will be issued a card and this certification will be good for two years.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of this will be that they will be prepared for a cardiac emergency in the future. Students will cover the signs and symptoms of a heart attack along with how to assist a victim who has gone into cardiac arrest. They will be able to assist a family member, co-worker, classmate, or a complete stranger.
