The goal for this grant is to provide sketchbooks to my Creating 2D, Creating 3D and Ceramics/Pottery 1 and 2 students here at Pine Ridge High School. The sketchbooks provide an organized way to keep art terms, assignment notes, planning and reflections together. The sketchbooks can be used as a point of reference through the student’s art making processes. The sketch books will also aide in the creation of artist statements and giving art critiques to peers. The long-term goal for the sketchbooks will be to build upon student learning with an ongoing interactive tool to help students make creative learning connections.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 159

The students’ sketch books have been a great tool this year. The students have been taking sketch/organizational notes, planning, and referencing back to their sketch book when needed. Sketch books are used for practicing skills and techniques before starting their artwork. Students have used their sketch books to help them write critiques and artist statements. Using an interactive sketch book has been a helpful tool in helping students understand the processes of creating art. The sketch books have been a super way to help the students talk to their peers about what they have learned and created. The sketch books have also been great for having students do makeup artwork. The Futures Grant for this teaching tool is appreciated immensely!

Benefits to my students

One benefit for the sketchbook project is that it will add greatly to reading and writing requirements for fine arts. Sketchbooks will promote time management skills and creative planning. The sketch book will add to students' vocabulary and speaking on topic skills. The teacher's sketchbook will serve as a reference tool for when students are absent. A great benefit will be that the students will learn a form of concept note taking, that can be applied to any subject.
