Nature of Science standards are always the lowest performing standards on the FSSA. My goal to rectify this problem is to ensure that my students work through the scientific method correctly when working on their science fair projects. Students will be mastering the (SC.5.N.1.1)(Define a problem, use appropriate reference materials to support scientific understanding, plan and carry out scientific investigations of various types such as: systematic observations, experiments requiring the identifications of variables, collecting and organizing data, interpreting data in charts, tables, and graphics, analyze information, make predictions, and defend conclusions.)

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Nature of Science standards are always the lowest performing standards on the FSSA. My goal to rectify this problem is to ensure that my students work through the scientific method correctly when working on their science fair projects. Students will be mastering the (SC.5.N.1.1)(Define a problem, use appropriate reference materials to support scientific understanding, plan and carry out scientific investigations of various types such as: systematic observations, experiments requiring the identifications of variables, collecting and organizing data, interpreting data in charts, tables, and graphics, analyze information, make predictions, and defend conclusions.)

What will be done with my students

All 70 of my students will work through their science fair projects at school. Students will be provided all of the materials they need to complete their projects and demonstrate their understanding of the scientific method. Each one of my students have a unique testable question that they will trying to answer through the scientific method. Each student has a unique testable question that they'll be addressing, and we are using this opportunity to cover 5th grade science standard SC.5.N.1.1. This standard is one of the most important 5th grade standards, and completing science fair projects allows us to cover this standard in a meaningful way.
(SC.5.N.1.1)(Define a problem, use appropriate reference materials to support scientific understanding, plan and carry out scientific investigations of various types such as: systematic observations, experiments requiring the identifications of variables, collecting and organizing data, interpreting data in charts, tables, and graphics, analyze information, make predictions, and defend conclusions.)

Benefits to my students

This grant will benefit the families of my students because it will cover the cost of materials needed for each of the science fair projects. This grant will be helping over 70 students.
