Original Grant Overview
Goal
The goal for this grant request is to obtain materials necessary for a Electronics Theremin build classroom lesson/activity. Students will follow instructions to design and several electronic circuit activities that culminates in the construction of a working theremin electronic instrument. Then students will then demonstrate how circuits work and how the theremin operates.
What will be done with my students
Benchmarks
Course Title: Exploring Technology and Career Planning
Course Number: 8600220
11.0 Demonstrate the abilities to apply the design process. – The student will be able to:
11.01 Apply a design process to solve problems in and beyond the laboratory-classroom.
11.02 Specify criteria and constraints for the design.
11.03 Make two-dimensional and three-dimensional representations of the designed solution.
11.04 Test and evaluate the design in relation to pre-established requirements, such as criteria and constraints, and refine as needed.
11.05 Make a product or system and document the solution
SC.7.P.10.1 Illustrate that the sun's energy arrives as radiation with a wide range of wavelengths, including infrared, visible, and ultraviolet, and that white light is made up of a spectrum of many different colors.
Students will learn basic circuit construction and design
Students will develop planning and following procedure skills
Students will learn basics of theremin operation. This involves supporting the core class content of the electromagnetic spectrum (specifically radio waves – including how frequency and wavelength relates to pitch and volume)
Benefits to my students
Students will benefit from this activity by participating in a hands-on, problem-based, explorative learning lesson that will support and promote their success in STEM as well as other content areas including core content areas.
Students will learn planning, procedure development, basic design concepts, basic circuit design, breadboarding, integrated circuits, and how the concepts of wavelength and frequency can be applied in non abstract, applied activity.
