What will be done with my students

French Immersion is a special area class. This class is about getting kids comfortable with learning French. I do this through play, songs, and movement. My goal is to communicate 70% of the class time in French. Students are greeted at the door in French, told to sit, stand, sing, and play all in French. During this unit students will learn the vocabulary for food in French. I will use the play food to first play games like who can put the food on the plate first. Four corners (each corner will be assigned a food) students will move to music and will stop in a corner when the music stops. The name of the food I pick from the basket will be out. Once they have learned the names of the food items I’ll set up a market where each group will have a list of food written in French to “buy”. The last unit on food will be playing restaurant using the play food. Students will greet one another and order the food in French. Students will learn short phrases to say while playing the restaurant game.

Benefits to my students

This is a new program and I have found young children are very eager to explore language. They aren’t afraid of making mistakes in a play setting and are able to learn new vocabulary quickly. Learning a language at a young age will give students confidence as they enter a World Language later in school.

Budget Narrative

I've looked for sets of food that have all the different types of meats, bread, fruits, and vegetables that we will be learning. I have students in 6 groups so I will make a kit for each table.
