Creekside Middle School has an outstanding Arts Department! We all work very independently, and many people don’t even know what we do. As I sat and watched several of their performances last year, I thought it would be cool if my visual arts students created projects based on the performing arts to hang in the cafeteria space where they perform. It is not easy to hang artwork up in the space because of the block walls, but we can hang from the drop ceiling.
I would like to have my students create painted banners based on all art forms. I envision paintings of dancers, musicians, instruments, theater masks, famous artist replicas and poems etc. hanging from the ceiling near the stage and around the edges of the multi- purpose room. This project will not only impact my students , but all of the students, staff, and parents as well, by showcasing what our talented students are doing here in the arts.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

The banners are stunning! The students who created them worked through the design process to create their final pieces and learned the importance of planning and redesigning work. They are extremely proud of their work. The entire school is enjoying having them didplayed in the cafeteria. The other arts apprecieate having them displayed to highlight their arts and adding beuty to their operformance area. In addition, parents and new studetns can easily see what we have to offer. Thank you so much!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

What will be done with my students

This project will take approximately 2-4 weeks to complete.
Students will...
1. Sketch 3 ideas for their paintings. Their ideas must be based on another art form, dance, drama, music, visual, or poetry.
2. Choose their best idea and block it in on the banner material.
3.Create their painting by using acrylic paint, and markers.
4. Hang the art (with help) in the cafeteria

•-3 Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.
