Thanks to this grant, my students were able to recieve more infant and adult CPR mannequins, a new AED, and resuscitation masks. We were able to have more students doing hands-on learning at the same time due to having more items. We are beyond grateful!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to be able to have more students engaged in a hands-on activity with learning how to perform effective CPR skills. More CPR Feedback Mannikins and AED trainers means that students are adequately prepared for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation correctly.

What will be done with my students

My students in both Medical Skills & Services and Health Science Foundations learn and deepen their skills in performing basic First Aid and they become certified in Heartsaver CPR.. They will learn how to help others when choking, what to do if a patient becomes unresponsive, and how to correctly check & perform CPR if needed. These skills are also used for demonstration at our school-wide Health Fair. The standard aligned to this is:

01.01 Describe first aid for foreign objects in the eye and ear
01.02 Perform skills in BLS
01.03 Demonstrate first aid for choking
01.04 Demonstrate activation of the Emergency Medical System (EMS)

Benefits to my students

CPR is a skill that requires hands-on practice throughout the whole lesson. Students get immediate feedback on if they are performing the CPR compressions correctly. If we can have enough so that students in the class can have their own mannikin, it provides quicker feedback from me as the teacher. I am also asking for two extra AED training machines so that we can have more for the students to practice with. The AED trainers and CPR mannikins give kids the best experience. My goal is that each student can benefit from the items and not have to wait to practice.

Budget Narrative

For this request, I will be looking to purchase a pack of four CPR mannikins with the feedback device implanted in it, 2 sets of AED trainers, and 3 sets of CPR respiratory masks. This will give us extra supplies for the students to be able to practice effectively.
