What will be done with my students

To create an interactive book club where students choose various grade-level Sunshine State titles they are interested in reading, discussing, and developing questions on in order to compete in the Battle of the Books.

Our goal is to increase literacy through an all-inclusive school community book club. Students who may not have access to highly engaging literature will be able to choose several books to read, and interact with through high-level questioning and processing. Students will receive brag tags for each novel he or she completes in order to show pride in his or her accomplishments as well as create a culture of literacy learners within our campus.

Benefits to my students

Students will be able to identify with characters their own age who are facing challenges or decisions pertinent to their own experience and collaborate with other schools within our district during the Battle of the Books.

Budget Narrative

All supplies will be utilized by the book club so that our DeLand Middle School students can participate in the Volusia County Battle of the Books. We were only able to participate last year because of the funding from this grant. This year we want our students to once again participate so we are hoping the Grant is accepted.
