Goal

My goal is for students to grow in their ability to create and evaluate their own original, three-dimensional designs.

What will be done with my students

Students will learn about architects, sculptors, and other 3-D designers, and have the opportunity to plan and create their own art using the various blocks, cardboard, and other donated, up-cycled items. They will record their work by taking photos and/or video and writing artist statements. They will then upload these to Artsonia, to share with me, their classmates, and their family. Students will use the materials during art class. The materials will be found in the STEAM/Construction center in my classroom.

Benefits to my students

The following standards will be covered:

Math (Geometry):
MAFS.G.2 - Analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes.

Language Arts (Writing):
LAFS.W.1.2 - Compose informative/explanatory texts.
LAFS.W.2.6 - Use digital tools to produce and publish writing.

VA.C.1.2 - Reflect on and interpret works of art, using observation skills, prior knowledge, and experience.

Visual Arts (Skills, Techniques, and Processess)
VA.S.1.1 - Manipulate tools and media to enhance communication in personal artworks.

Students will also benefit socially/emotionally. Many of the supplies/activities encourage collaboration. Students will have the opportunity to work with their classmates, practicing leadership and communication skills.
