Goal

The students in Pre-K work regularly with standards associated with fine and gross motor skills, as well as problem solving and planning with Executive Functioning. These materials allow students to learn skills in all of these areas through play. 

 

What will be done with my students

Students will work in small group to build and create with the straws and connectors. At times, students will use these materials as part of Free Play and others they will be asked to build specific items or build or create something to solve a defined problem.


VPK Standard I.A.a.1 Engages in physical activities with increasing balance, coordination, endurance and intensity

I.B.a.1 Shows increased curiosity and is eager to learn new things and have new experiences
I.B.B.1 Attends to tasks for a brief period of time
I.B.C.1. Approaches daily activities with creativity and inventiveness
I.B.D.1. Demonstrates some planning and learning from experiences
V.D.1 Recognizes and names two-dimensional shapes (circle, square, triangle and rectangle) of different size and orientation
V.D.3 Creates two-dimensional shapes using other shapes (e.g., putting two squares together to make a rectangle)
V.D.4 Constructs with three-dimensional shapes in the environment through play (e.g., building castles in the construction area)
V.E. 1. Describes relationships between objects and locations with words and gestures by constructing models to demonstrate an understanding of proximity (beside, next to, between, below, over and under)
V.F. 1. Measures object attributes using a variety of standard and nonstandard tools
 

 

Benefits to my students

Students will improve executive functioning skills, fine and gross motor skills, interpersonal communication, and planning.
