Goal

This grant seeks to achieve middle school student enrichment and artistic exposure with kinesthetic application of 3D art techniques.

What will be done with my students

Middle school art students will learn how to use clay, proper clay crafting techniques, clean up methods, and will ultimately produce a clay product they are able to personalize and take home.

VA.68.F.3.4
Follow directions and complete art tasks in a timely manner to show development of 21st-century skills.

VA.68.S.2.2
Create artwork requiring sequentially ordered procedures and specified media to achieve intended results.

VA.68.S.3.3
Demonstrate understanding of safety protocols for media, tools, processes, and techniques.

Benefits to my students

The unit is designed not only for students to express themselves imaginatively and learn how to more deftly work with their hands, but students will also learn lifelong soft skills, such as responsibility, effective communication tools, and how to process sequential instructions.

Budget Narrative

The budget will provide pottery wheels that come with modeling clay and I will apply some of the current art supplies on hand to the project. The Pottery wheels will come from Stage.com at a cost of $19.98 each. The Gloss Glaze will be used to finish clay projects. This product will be acquired from Hobby Lobby in 8.0 oz jars costing $6.99 each. The balance of the budget will purchase size D batteries from Best Buy to operate and replenish battery supplies needed by the pottery wheels.

The 3D art project is planned as part of the current curriculum this school year. The pottery wheels will be retained by the school for multiple classes throughout the year and for use in future years.
