Goal

Create an opportunity for every student in grade 8 to improve their understanding of gravity and energy for greater success on the Florida Statewide Science Assessment.

What will be done with my students

Students will interact with a hands-on model to explore the relationship between energy and gravity.
This investigation will allow students to collect data on how gravitational potential energy relates to the masses of two bodies and their distances apart.
Students will manipulate "planets and the sun" to model this relationship using steel marbles.
This interactive lab will help students visualize how gravity is energy. SC.8.E.5.4 and SC.8.N.1.1 are the standards associated with this activity.

Benefits to my students

1. Every student will benefit from a hands-on experience. Each students will have their own model to utilize for their studies.
2. These concepts are extremely difficult for students to master. These are standards that are tested in 8th grade.

Budget Narrative

The items purchased includes everything needed for the hands-on lab except the steel marbles, which have already been purchased for all 14 Middle Schools.
Currently, there is no funding available for the purchase of these items.
