As a Social Studies teacher it is difficult to bring history alive for the students. The places we discuss seem so far away. Through the use of Google Cardboard, I want to put the students in the middle of the action whether it be taking a virtual tour of Washington D.C. or visiting the Colosseum.

Goal

As a Social Studies teacher it is difficult to bring history alive for the students. The places we discuss seem so far away. Through the use of Google Cardboard, I want to put the students in the middle of the action whether it be taking a virtual tour of Washington D.C. or visiting the Colosseum.

What will be done with my students

Google Cardboard is a low-cost virtual reality viewer that uses smartphones and free apps to create learning experiences that transport students from the confines of the classroom to various locations around the world. In my US History class the students will be able to view Gettysburg.

This link will show students at a school in Arlington using Google Expeditions the app for Google Cardboard:

The great thing about this virtual technology is that it is not just limited to use in US History. Students can visit places all over the world and even the International Space Station, which means exploration can be integrated in any class. Imagine reading a book set in London and then being able to walk the streets of London. Now that is a memorable learning experience.

Budget Narrative

The Google Cardboard Headset is the item that will unlock the memorable learning experience for the students.
