Goal

My goal is to motivate and help my students become successful readers and raise their comprehension and vocabulary scores.

What will be done with my students

Students will be allowed to check out books from the classroom as many times as they want throughout the week. Students will also be allowed to take the books home to read. Most of my students come from single parent homes or live with other family members and do not have access to any books. Although students go to the school Media center once a week most of them are not allowed to check out books because they've lost them and can't afford to pay for them.

Benefits to my students

I believe the benefit of having a well stocked classroom library where my students will have the freedom to choose books that appeal to them will help transform them into motivated and successful readers. I believe I will see positive results with this type of learning environment because the students will be able to choose books that are on their level and ones that they can relate to. Reading promotes overall achievement, as well as higher scores on vocabulary,
comprehension, fluency, and reading comprehension.

Budget Narrative

I feel that $250.00 is a great start in stocking my classroom library with books from Scholastic.
