Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 100

The students did an outstanding job with the program.  We did a candy drive fundraiser and raised additional funds to do the same program in April. Fifty students sold 50 boxes of candy raising $1500.  We were able to purchase $50 Publix Gift cards for 8 families and purchased additional food for each family.  We also collected several items from students, The Lions club also donated several boxes of food.  The program was an outstanding success, much more than we had anticipated in support for families.  We will target same families with support and assitance with the guidance department and complete program again for Spring Break.  Lions Club agreed to help as well.

Thanks for all support!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To create a student driven hands on project to help members of the Auburndale High School Community, by targeting families in need for a nutritional traditional, nutritional Thanksgiving Meal for Thanksgiving.

What will be done with my students

Students will develop a budget to target 25 families in need of a nutritional traditional meal for Thanksgiving. Students will create 25 meals with the menu of their choosing for each family. Students will be following the Florida State Standard of Creating a Budget (Economics) and Your Obligations as Citizens. (Government) Students will work with Administration Staff to target 25 families in need. The funds will be used to purchase 25 turkeys. Students will determine where and how much they will spend on turkeys. Program will also by supported by schools Fellowship of Christian Athletes Program. FCA and students will co-ordinate a packaged food drive for the trimmings and deserts to go along with the turkeys.

Benefits to my students

Students will learn first hand the benefit of giving to the community in particular the 25 families that can use the support during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Students will also experience the importance of meeting their obligations as citizens as well as developing and following a budget. Students must work together to plan the event including developing posters, flyers and a plan for delivering the meals to the targeted families.

Budget Narrative

The money will be budgeted to support Auburndale High School students and parents that may not be able to afford a nutritional, traditional Thanksgiving meal over Thanksgiving Holiday.
